Christina Stewart

Christina Stewart's captivating voice echoes her warm devotion to the celtic tradition of her native Scottish Highlands. Highly regarded as an active advocate of Scotland's song traditions, she teaches Gaelic, Scots and English language songs in classes and special projects for all ages, and performs at festivals, concerts and ceilidhs. She believes passionately in the value of celebrating songs within their traditional contexts, not just on stage and CD. This takes many forms including involving her in working with storytellers to preserve the link between the story and song elements of oral heritage, developing dance interpretation of Gaelic song, bringing lullabies to parent and toddler groups and teaching traditional singing games in playgrounds . Born and brought up in the capital of the Scottish Highlands, Inverness, Christina comes from a family of singers from Torridon in Wester Ross and Skye in the Inner Hebrides. She went on to study traditional song as part of her Honours degree at the School of Scottish Studies and Edinburgh University in the late 1980s and has since been busy devising, developing and delivering projects and education in Scotland's traditional arts. She is an experienced and inspirational conference speaker and lecturer whose knowledge and enthusiasm for her subject always shine through.
