Biography

Claire Chase, First Prize winner in the 2008 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, is active as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, cultural producer and arts entrepreneur. A passionate leader and innovator in 21st century music performance and production, Claire performs and produces events in venues ranging from the stages of the world’s most important concert halls to warehouses, galleries, clubs and public spaces. Over the past ten years, she has given the world premieres of over 100 new solo works for the flute, many of them written expressly for her. Her debut solo album, aliento, which features world premiere recordings of works for flute and electronics, was released to critical acclaim in October 2009 on New Focus Recordings. "The entire album is a knockout," claims the Chicago Reader. TimeOut New York has called her "a dynamo flutist" and the Chicago Tribune has praised Claire as "a virtuoso of amazing dexterity and sensitivity."

Claire is the flutist and director of the International Contemporary Ensemble, hailed by the New York Times as “one of the most adventurous and accomplished groups in new music.” Recent engagements include headline performances at the Lincoln Center Festival, Mostly Mozart Festival, Musica Nova Helsinki Festival, Darmstadt IMC (Germany), Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Whitney Museum, and recordings on the Tzadik, Nonesuch, New Amsterdam, Bridge and Naxos labels.
