Clara Lofaro

Biography

CLARA LOFARO is an old soul in a young body with an independent spirit. The Toronto transplant inherently believes her music must always possess the timeless qualities of the old and the new to have a sustainable future. Fresh off the success of her critically-acclaimed 3rd album, Perfekt World (ComeTrue Records, 2008), for which she received 6 Toronto Exclusive Music Awards and commercial radio airplay across Canada, Clara has teamed up with world-beat reggae sensation Denison George and Sidney Mills (Boogie Down productions, Steel Pulse) to bring this year’s reggae-pop crossover hit, “Love You More.” “I want to make music that’s great because it gives people an experience,” she says. “I’m not following a formula other than always trying to give a song something different to make it my own, unlike anything else I’ve ever heard.” The success of Perfekt World opened many eyes and ears across the music industry and led to opening spots on sold-out shows for Duncan Sheik, Jeffrey Gaines, and Emerson Hart in 2008 alone, as well as an in-studio performance on New York City’s Fresh 102.7FM. It also led to a partnership with the top-rated famine relief organization, Action Against Hunger, for whom Lofaro has become an active voice in helping generate awareness and money to fight extreme poverty all over the world. Clara donates 20% of her album sales to the cause and has performed at many of AAH’s charitable functions. Lofaro began taking the music world by storm with Black + Blue Pearl (ComeTrue Records 2005), a top seller on CD Baby. The album picked up radio airplay on New York's WLIR and college stations throughout the Northeast, while 106 VIC radio in Ithaca, NY, named the track, "One True Thing" 2006 Song of the Year. The success of that album brought Lofaro to side stage acoustic performances with Stevie Nicks and OAR at Jones Beach on Long Island, and the Bamboozle Festival at Giants Stadium. Audience voted Lofaro second favorite at a Fresh 102.7 outdoor concert featuring Edwin McCain, Kimberly Locke and others. That Fall, Lofaro beat over 450 entrants to take top honors in Toronto's Indie Week as the city's best unsigned talent. She subsequently returned to the studio with producer Mark Turrigiano (Ingrid Michaelson’s Boys and Girls) to create Perfekt World, an album combining the best of both worlds; the old and the new, on every song, regardless of style. To Lofaro, a mixture of the old and the new is what life is anyway, and with a full realization and dedication to that essential balance, who needs to rely on trends? On stage, Lofaro re-enacts the human experience, whether being supported by her band or performing solo. Her live performances have won her many fans across the United States and Canada and she is currently on tour promoting her new single. In addition to this, you can hear CL’s voice and songwriting on many recordings starting in 2009 as she has evolved to become a go-to artist in the music publishing field where she has worked with Disney, MTV, Sears and many others.Contact: info@claralofaro.com www.claralofaro.com
