Clara Rose is a raw, original, Irish Roots musician. Her unique blend of raunchy blues, mesmerising folk and sultry roots are hard found in these troubled times.
She was born in Dublin, cut her teeth in the town Maynooth and discovered her roots in Co. Monaghan. Her music, however, comes from the soul.
Since the age of 17 Clara Rose has been performing solo shows on the Dublin scene in venues such as; Whelans, The Sugar Club, Bewleys Cafe Theatre and up &coming music venue: The Brian Boru.
Clara Rose is now joined by a 7 piece backing band featuring drums, bass, electric guitar, keys, violin and 2 backing singers. With Clara Rose on lead vocals and guitar they form, ‘Clara Rose & The Relatives’. Their much acclaimed show at last years Flat Lake Literary and Arts Festival (2009) hurtled them onto the scene and they have since supported Don Baker in The Lost & Found in December 2009 and played at her recent album launch McKenna's Brewery in Monaghan in May.
Throughout her career to date Clara Rose has played with such Irish legends as Horslips’ Johnny Fean, Brian Downey, Henry McCullough and Rob Strong.
Clara Rose is also a member of Dublin based gospel/soul vocal harmony group, “The Gospel Project” who released their album “On The Outside” in 2009.
Her stunning debut album, "A Portfolio" features 12 original tracks (10 original, one of which written by her mother Liz Monahan-the songstress from the Drumlins of Monaghan and a Bob Dylan cover –an artist close to her heart). It is currently available at her live shows.
Clara Roses’ Dublin Album Launch will be on 10th September 2010 in The Odessa Club, 13 Dame Court, Dublin 2. It promises to be a spectacular event full of musical surprises and rockin’ original tunes.
Irish Times Review of Flat Lake festival performance - August 2009:
with Clara Rose, you "take the best of the McGarrigle sisters, add a bunch of accomplished musicians and some finger clickin' blues..."
