Claudia Tamayo

Born and raised in San Diego, California, Claudia Tamayo developed an early passion for music. Many artists inspired Claudia in the 90’s but Tejano singer Selena motivated her to perform. Her first public performance was at her elementary school’s talent show and the audience’s positive feedback made her realize that singing was definitely something she wanted to continue. Throughout the years Claudia performed at school events, fairs, family parties and various venues. After high school, Claudia decided she wanted to pursue a bachelors degree in Liberal arts and attended San Diego State University to fulfill her goal of becoming an elementary school teacher. Although, she dedicated her time to her studies she also found time for her passion in music. Claudia joined a local party band known as Breezin when she was 19 years old. Their playlist was diverse and included Spanish to English songs from oldies to cumbias, ballads and contemporary. At 22 years old, Claudia graduated from San Diego State University and began to teach while she continued to perform with Breezin band on the weekends. When Claudia turned 25 she wanted to start a new chapter in her life. She decided to return to school for a masters in counseling which led her to part ways with Breezin band. It didn’t last too long for Claudia to look for another outlet for music. Claudia partnered up with her friend local musician and songwriter David Villafana and performed his song Tengo Que Confesar on Despierta San Diego show on Univison. She experienced a special connection with the song and felt the need to share it with others. Given a taste of the spotlight, Claudia took the opportunity to record a demo with Signature Studio and has chosen to make Tengo Que Confesar her first single.
