CORNOGRAPHY
Not the King, not the Queen, but the Jack of Country Music - Cole Slaw & The Baked Bean Band - hails from the little Ozark Mountain town of Despair, Arkansas. That's just up the road from Hope.
Cole and The Beans, or as he likes to call ‘em – “the musical fruit,” play to packed houses (and trailers) all over Los Angeles and on comedy radio around the world. They hit the comedy music big time, scoring a Cole Cut on a Dr. Demento CD.
“All My Favorite Drunks Have Given Up Drinkin’ was an instant hit on the Dr. Demento Show,” offered the syndicated radio host who launched Weird Al. “I've heard a bunch of people say things like that, but it took Cole Slaw to put it into a great country song. Cole Slaw & The Baked Bean Band...they may be named after side orders, but they're main course all the way!”
Obviously, Cole’s as hot as – well – hot coals. Known to their die-hard Bean Babes and Bubbas as “Tenacious D on White Lightnin’,” Cole and the Beans are splitting more sides than a Roman soldier’s spear with hits like 'She’s Got a Purty Mouth Like Ned Beatty,' 'A Love That Dare Not Speak It’s LAST Name,' and 'Up at the Crack a Dawn.'
Cole wasn’t always The Jack. Like every other Arkansan with a community theater credit, he arrived in Los Angeles thinking Harry Thomason would put him in a series. Think again, Arkie Boy. But, instead of waiting on the porch swing, Cole put together this outfit to show off. You see, where he grew up, about the only way to break into show business was to sing country music or preach. After all, 'Hee Haw' had been cancelled - there was already enough of those Saturday fishin' shows -and, it was only after he got to Hollywood that he found out 'King of the Hill' is animated.
Soon, the producers behind 'Designing Women' and 'Evening Shade' tapped him to warm-up their latest sitcom, where The Jack performed for The King, debuting 'Lord Please Make My Daddy Burt Reynolds' for their aforementioned legendary guest star. And the rest is history in the making.
After a record-setting, ten-week LA theatre run with Steve Martin's 'Picasso at the Lapin Agile,' Cole & The Beans became a multi-media juggernaut - live performances, recordings, theatrical shows. There's already an animated series pilot script and a concert film in the making.
“Country’s ready for this. Hell, it needs it. The Jack’s ready. He thrives on pressure. And every Bean Babe and Bubba knows, if you squeeze Cole hard enough – you get a diamond.” – The Colonel, Cole’s Manager and Assistant GM of the Despair KFC.
