Cosimo

Born into the Italian-American community of Melrose Park, IL, I am the product of a passionate environment rich in color, music, and calamari. Given to a life of art, I have brought 10 years of instruction of painting and drawing and my love of music and songwriting to students in several colleges in both Illinois and Northern California. Special interests and government influenced the making of budget cuts that ended art classes and those teaching days.

I have continued my work in the arts and humanities bringing it to the many with whom I have collaborated and interacted on all the walks of life that I have experienced after teaching.

I have had the pleasure to be the Art Director of the indie film “Gabriela” and to do a recording of one of my songs - named after the film - with Poncho Sanchez and his band.

Although I sing and I play instruments and jam when I can in homes, around campfires and at certain music festivals or with local bands, allergies have kept me from leading a musician’s life on the road; but the show must go on – the Internet that is.

There are a number of people with the name Michael Scaccia; so I go by a name I have happily owned since my childhood, my given middle name - Cosimo - after my Sicilian Grandfather.

My interest lies in the beauty of the universe and in nurturing among all people a realization of the human potential for reveling in that beauty. The human state should be heavenly. I am a pioneer and I believe that human beings can do anything.

From my beginnings I remember a loving people, rich dialects, good food and nourishment from the good earth and one’s own labor. From steel forge to college campus, from mansions to Indian towns, from neighborhoods to the Great Plains and beyond, I feel in touch with the planet and with the human spirit.

The human condition is a recurring theme in my work. In it you are likely to see desert landscapes and seascapes out of which come visions of people, dancing, striving, soaring. And the music? The music is for dancing, striving, soaring.

Thanks to all these savvy and spirited musicians and technicians for their beautiful and conscientious collaborative success in this “Cultural Blend” of music here and thank all of you listeners for your kudos and for supporting this work.
