Up and coming artist, D.P. was born Derrell Patterson on January 16, 1991. D.P. was raised by his mother, in his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Since music always filled his home, D.P. developed a love for music at a yearly age. Often he would bury himself under covers and meditate to music until the early morning hours. D.P. is also an avid reader. His love of literature and music naturally spawned his passion for rapping. D.P. has set out to bring true “lyricism” back to the rap world. The true essence of rap music has long since been buried beneath meaningless lyrics, catchy hooks, and dance moves. D.P.’s music and lyrical style will help unearth rap’s true essence.
D.P. was showcased at the 2009 East Coast Music Conference, where Michael Bivins, of New Edition and Bell, Biv, Devoe, credited him for his rap skills and “raw talent.” D.P. has performed at multiple local open mic competitions. He placed in the semi-finals of this year’s Iron Mic “Road to Summer Jam” competition. Recently, D.P. was a featured artist in the East Coast Flavor music showcase. He has also performed in several venues, in Fayetteville and throughout North Carolina, D.P. just recently opening up for Wale.
D. P. released his first mixtape, Featured Presentation, in 2009. His second mixtape, All The Way From The Prequel, was released in November 2010. D.P. will soon embark on a promotional tour, to promote his second mixtape due out in 2012.
