Damian "D.D." Price is a young musician composer born in the city of Houston, who began singing in the church choir at five (5) years old. His gift for music at age twelve (12) while reading the section on music in the M Encyclopedia led him to playing the piano. By the age of fifteen (15) this self-taught pianist was attending the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) and accompanying the choirs at New Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Upon graduation from HSPVA Damian enrolled at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX as a Music Education Major and while excelling in academics, he started the College Gospel Choir. Later he transferred to Texas Southern University in Houston, TX where he is presently a Music Education Major. While at TSU he continued to excel as an honor student making the Dean’s List and President’s List. The National Association for the Study and Performance of African American Music (NASPAAM) honored him with the Rising Star Award during their annual convention in 2011.
In 2003 he formed the group Praise and released an independent project in 2005 entitled God Meant it for My Good, Damian Price-N-PRAISE featuring the Houston Mass Choir of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, which set off the hit song, God Meant it for My Good, which was #1 on local radio stations for several months. Since, Price has had the opportunity to have his music published by several publishing companies, featured in many conventions, conferences and performed by choirs around the country. At the July 2010, National Convention of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Damian competed in the Thurston G. Frazier Memorial Songwriters Scholarship and Won 1st Place, receiving a scholarship from the National Convention. He also presented a song to the National Mass Choir of the convention, which was recorded. His composition, He’s So Freely Passing Out Blessings, was recently chosen for the New National Baptist Convention Hymnal, Total Praise released June 2011 and GIA Publishing’s, Next Generation of Catholic Hymnals, Lead Me, Guide Me to be released in 2012.
He has had the honor of sharing the stage with such gospel artist as Donald Lawrence, Dr. Margaret Douroux, Twinkie Clark, V. Michael McKay, Hezekiah Walker, Norman Hutchins and Stephen Hurd just to name a few. And, had my music recorded and performed by the; Hampton University Ministers’ Conference 2012,
Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA)-National Mass Choir, Women’s and Men’s Divisions, and the New Music Seminar, National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses (NCGCC)-Mass, Alumni and Youth and Young Adults, Chad Higgins and in the Spirit, Wilma Bivens and Friends, Theola Booker and Friends featuring the Greater St. Matthew Mass Choir, Chester D.T. Baldwin and the Texas Mass Choir, Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Choir and National Baptist Conventions of America.
Damian continues to write and is currently finishing the studio work on Praise’s sophomore recording due to be released Summer 2012. One would think that all of his dreams have come true. Damian Price-N-Praise’s goal in this music ministry is to encourage men and women to follow there dreams, seek God and walk in the path that He has set before them to go. It is his hope that all those that come in contact and remember, that If the Lord had not been on our side where would we be; -Psalm 124:1
