Dan started studying Suzuki piano at the age five but that was only the beginning of his eclectic musical education. In middle school, he played trumpet in the concert and jazz band and guitar in assorted rock bands. Dan later pursued music in higher education, receiving a full ride -- the Diana Ross Scholarship -- to attend McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota. He graduated summa cum laude as the salutatorian from McNally Smith with a bachelors degree in Piano Performance in April 2008 and was the sole recipient of the “Outstanding Student Award." Today he is a full time faculty member at McNally Smith, teaching keyboard, theory, and ear-training classes.
He also studied with jazz legends Craig Taborn (pianist for Chris Potter) and Kenny Werner (author of Effortless Mastery) and has been a featured in Jazziz Magazine for performing in a "top college ensemble." He performs at many Twin Cities venues such as: the Artists' Quarter, the Dakota Bar and Café, and Cafe Maude. Dan has performed with Adam Linz, Brandon Wozniak, Jay Epstein, Cory Wong,, Rachel Holder, Erin Schwab, plus performances with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, John Moulder, Brian Hemstock, and many others. He also is a musician and arranger for Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
