Dana Starkell

Biography

DANA STARKELL began honing his skills as a classical guitarist during an epic
two-year 12,000 mile canoe trip from Canada to Brazil. Incredibly, his guitar
survived the entire trip. During a break in Port of Spain, he received lessons
from Philip Keiler (who had studied with Alice Artz in New York), and gave his
first formal concert at the University of the West Indies. In 1983, Dana won
top prize in the Senior Classical Guitar category of the Manitoba Music
Festival. Dana has attended Christopher Parkening master classes and
received lessons from John Sutherland, David Brandon, and Norbert Kraft.

Dana has performed extensively in classical, renaissance, spanish, and
baroque styles since 1982. While living in Winnipeg, he was a regular
entertainer at various venues including The Round Table, Factor's Table, and
Merteens skywalk restaurant. He currently lives in the Midwest and performs
throughout the United States.
