Singing and performing comes as naturally to Daniel Cannis as walking and breathing.
In the world of popular music, Daniel Cannis has come along with a new genre and style that can be described as epic; putting a Mediterranean sound into the everyday modern song.
This Mediterranean flavoured music with its modern pop instrumentation is infused with the beautiful words and phrases of the Greek language. Daniel uses his voice to give life to original songs, written by the extraordinary, award winning and multi-million selling maestro, John Capek.
For some of the songs, producer John Capek has also used mandolins, Greek bouzouki and baglama to further enhance the authenticity of the music and bring a little bit of Greece to the music, while maintaining the gloss of the “today” sound and staying current with radio friendly production values.
Daniel’s music will take you on a journey that will take you through a myriad of emotions and feelings; making you laugh, cry, remembering to be thankful.
Daniel took his very first steps on stage at the early age of six.
This was a moment of truth, as it was certain that this young child had a special gift and he clearly belonged on a stage. Daniel pursued his love of music and performing from that point on, taking his first big step by attending Wexford Collegiate Institute, in the Musical Theatre Program. He performed with leading roles in classic musicals such as Kiss Me Kate, The Music Man and Ann of Green Gables.
As secondary school was coming to an end, Daniel knew that this was the path he wanted to pursue and continue. He was accepted into the prestigious Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, and completed the Triple Threat Program. At this point, Daniel was on his way to achieving his dreams and aspirations, landing roles for musicals, film and television.
His background in theatrical production has greatly enhanced his stage performance and he has honed those skills on some the world’s finest stages including at a benefit concert in November 2010 with the amazing George Dalaras for Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church at the Lincoln Center, N.Y.
Some of his key theater roles include the role of Sir Lionel in the United States tour of Camelot, Elvis in The Golden Age Rocks On, Dean Martin in The Rat Pack Tribute Show that toured Canada, the lead singer in Star Struck and Fast Forward and Danny in Grease, to mention a few. In film and television, Daniel has been featured in, Dual Suspects, Paranormal Witness, Curious and Unusual Deaths, Dinosaur Dan and the lead in Darkness Reveals.
On June 7, 2012 Daniel performed CREDO (composed and orchestrated in 2010 by Christos Hatzis) at a benefit concert for the One Hundred Year Anniversary of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, Buffalo, N.Y.
Daniel’s true love of music and his passion to share his gift with the world is obvious in every aspect of his career. His love of community is reflected in the many charities and causes that Daniel gives his time and talent to, including The Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto, The Hellenic Heritage Foundation, Toronto, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Canadian Cancer Society, Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, N.Y, CEGA Awards, Canada and the Greek Community of Toronto.
