Darien Brahms

Biography

Singer, songwriter and producer, Darien Brahms, is a six time winner of the “Best Female Vocalist and Best Performer” awards in her hometown of Portland, Maine. Her sound has been described as “an odd but grabbing mix of sophistication and raw edges” by Brett Milano in the Boston Phoenix and has won her opening slots for the likes of The Violent Femmes, Chris Isaak, Daniel Lanois, Ben Harper and Townes Van Zandt as well as a collaboration with guitarist Marc Ribot. She has produced and co-produced four solo rock albums and was the principle songwriter and chanteuse for the beloved Latin lounge band, the Munjoy Hill Society. In 2000 she contributed a track to the international compilation “Calling All Kings and Queens” on Mr.Lady Records which then led her to two successful European tours. To quote Peter Smith of Maine Magazine, she is “Portland’s reigning rock queen, playing a distinctive blend of alt-country, old school rock and roll, early nineties grrrl rock, sea shanties and even some Latin jazz…she’s an artist who constantly reinvents herself and her songs.” Brahms is currently at work on her fifth and sixth solo CDs to be released on Cornmeal Records.
