I began composing and recording original jazz and fusion material while studying music education at Boston University during the mid 90s. A significant amount of time from then through the early 00's was spent in the studio recording personal projects as well as contributing to the recordings of others. Additionally, I was fortunate enough to spend time on stage with a significant variety of ensembles, most notably for Carnival Cruise Lines, as well as with the Four Tops. However, as my teaching career became more demanding and time-consuming, I took a gradual and necessary hiatus from performing and recording and directed my composition and arranging efforts toward the students in my school ensembles.
2012 marked a definitive and concentrated return to writing and recording my own material, this time with a clear intent to publish the recordings. I began this effort by collecting the best material from the 90s and 00s and publishing two full-length albums of that material. Transition, the first of these, is comprised of fusion compositions. Evolution, the second release, is comprised of traditional jazz material. Toward the end of the year, I released my 3rd album (but the first to be recorded with the intent to publish), Work in Progress, containing brand new compositions written specifically for the ensemble. In the summer of 2013, I recorded and released Retrospective and In the Cloud, both using techniques to assemble the material different from those I have used previously, capitalizing on the current state of communications and musical technology. All of the saxophone parts were recorded in my home studio, and some of the other parts were contributed by musicans from around the world. Other parts were created using Finale, Garritan Instruments for Finale and Jazz and Big Band 3, and Band In A Box Real Tracks. All composition and arrangements are original and genuine.
