Dave Stephens(guitar)BORN:United Kingdom MUSICAL HISTORY:Started playing guitar in early teens and graduated from playing pop/rock to jazz/rock and from there to bebop and beyond. Received critical acclaim from top American jazz producer Michael Cuscuna. Recorded various limited release albums over the years and also contributed to jazz magazine radio shows during the 1980's and 90's. Contributed and performed on accompanying CD to Adrian Ashton's 'The Bass Handbook' (Backbeat Books).Dave’s own influences and favourite musicians include the likes of Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Lee Ritenour, Al Di Meola, John Etheridge, Joe Zawinul (and Weather Report), Charlie Parker, Wes Montgomery, Django Reinhardt, Paco de Lucia, Frank Sinatra and outside of the world of jazz; Ennio Morricone, Steve Reich and the music of Brazil, Argentina (Tango), the Mediterranean and France.
With the formation of the new group CON MOTO with keyboard player Paul Smail things are set to look interesting forfor the future. Other available recordings in clude the 2007 album of acoustic guitar/piano duets with Paul Smail "Red Boats & Blue Skies" and the 2010 "Smail & Stephens Project". Con Moto have released a double 'a' side single with further to follow, and an album slated for release in 2012.
...and now hot on the tails of his single "London Town" comes his heavily anticipated solo album "Days Like These" - already within days of promo copies going out to various radio shows it is being hailed as "A great album!" by DJ Norrie (smoothjazzinthemix.com) and "A super album!" by Rod Lucas (www.bestsmoothjazz.com & www.bestsmoothgrooves.com). At the same time Dave has been producing and working with an upcoming star of the saxophone - Alex Lloyd - still only a teenager, but "mature beyond his years"!!
