David Barrett/Scott Matthews

Biography

David Barrett and Scott Matthews grew up together in Scarborough in the seventies. Their first band, "Crucial Taunt" was like most in the area, playing mostly Led Zeppelin and Rush. Actor/writer Mike Myers, then in his early teens, came down to a basement rehearsal to audition the band for a nearby high school concert. The band never got the gig, but years later Mike phoned Scott and asked his permission to use the name "Crucial Taunt" for the name of the band in his then upcoming film, "Wayne's World". Of course Scott said yes, and the name "Crucial Taunt" lives on forever, on film at least.
David Barrett went on the play with many Canadian bands and artists, and Scott Matthews released two successful 12" singles in the mid-eighties, "Boats In Rivers" and "Role Boys", both received CFNY (Toronto) music awards nominations.
Reunited in 2002, David Barrett and Scott Matthews began work on "Amitabha", a cd of instrumental compositions reflecting their mutual interest in esoteric music and composers and later in 2008 Barrett and Matthews got together for their second album of cinematic and psychedelic themes called album Radium Lustre.
By using symphonic instruments and guitars together in an unconventional manner, Barrett and Matthews make a fresh departure from other electronic and rock instrumentals, and offer their own brand of 21st century style composition.
