David Belmont is a guitarist/composer/producer based in New York City. His work spans a broad range of genres from lush ambient soundscapes to jazz/rock-based world fusion to angular avant garde jazz. While focusing mainly on original instrumental compositions, David’s music has, at times, featured eclectic cover material; e.g., a New Age arrangement of the Rolling Stones classic Moonlight Mile (on WindWater Excursions) or, more recently, an ethereal acoustic version of The Doors' I Can't See Your Face In My Mind on (International Steel Guitar).
He first came to prominence in the early 1970s with the highly rated acid-rock NYC band Charley Quasar – his brother, Joe, also played guitar in the band.
Belmont continued extensive musical activity in Manhattan's various cultural scenes. He has composed scores for film, theater, poetry, mime and dance. His work includes collaborations with poet Jose Angel Figueroa (Transfigurations, performed at Joseph Papp's Anspacher Theatre); mime/dancer/director Marc Maislen of Phasa Beam Arts (improvisations at the Cambridge (MA) River Festival, Lincoln Center Out of Doors and the Counterweight Festival, NYC; Angels Without Wings, Ebert Artists House, NYC; Ellipsis, Long Island University's Triangle Theatre, commissioned by Isaac Asimov for the Futures Conference; and holographer Rick Silberman (Solid Deceptions, Museum of Holography, NYC).
Belmont has independently produced 22 albums of his work.
Recent multi-media credits include co-writing with Josh Neretin the film score of Fred Newman's Nothing Really Happens (Castillo Productions, 2003), arranging the music, with Michael Walsh, for Fred Newman's Sally and Tom (The American Way) (2012) and Heiner Müller's The Task (2009) for main stage productions at the Castillo Theatre (W. 42nd St., NYC).
Belmont co-leads Live Music Continuum workshops with Mary Abrams of Moving Body Resources and creates Remix workshois with Gwen Lowenheim of the East Side Institute.
Belmont's music can be heard regularly in the US on John Diliberto's syndicated radio program Echoes.
