Indie folk/rock with a hard edge and biting lyrics. Songwriter, guitarist, vocalist, David Bryan Wilson has arrived with his debut solo release, "Out Of The Woods" .
Veteran Portland rocker, John Huckfeldt says, "Musically, Wilson shows some of his punk rock roots in his latest album".
But at times, Huckfeldt says, "the music also translates a sophisticated, melancholy feeling, occasionally employing instrumental flourishes, odd vocal ramblings and haunting harmonies for effect . Wilson's voice has been compared to Elvis Costello, XTC, Tears for Fears, even Gordon Lightfoot."
In 1979, Wilson's band, The Stiphnoyds was a seminal part of the early Portland, Oregon rock scene.
While in The Stiphnoyds, Wilson shared the stage with such acts as Greg Sage and The Wipers, Black Flag, The Dils, Rank and File, DOA, Napalm Beach, The Rats (Dead Moon) plus Sado Nation and John Shirley.
Today you can hear his work on several older northwest rock recordings such as: The Stiphnoyds “Afraid Of The Russians”, The Stiphnoyds “Buried Alive 1979”,
The Wipers, “Scared Stiff”, Portland’s compilation album “10-29-79“, plus Sage's "History Of Portland Punk". The Stiphnoyds were also featured in Mike Lastra's Punk Documentary "Northwest Passage".
