David Zee

Biography

For over 30 years, singing pianist David Anthony Zee has performed upscale tunes with a down-home attitude for listening and dancing audiences at countless clubs and shows in Maryland and surrounding states. As solo artist, or in small groups with great instrumentalists, his smooth vocals, funtime piano, and improvised comic banter never fail to pull audiences into the entertainment zone. In more intimate concert venues, David mixes in poignant ballads and song/stories across evocative lyrical landscapes.

David's musical journey has brought him far from his steeltown roots growing up in Baltimore. His audience-centered approach evolved in one-nighters and weekly residencies in the bars and clubs of Maryland and surrounding states through the 80s. A 10-year stint as musical director for DC-based comedy troupe Gross National Product, as well as composer-in-residence for multiple Emmy-winning kids' TV star Bob Heck, took David through the theaters and event halls of the capital and across the U.S., where his breakneck boogie-woogie piano instrumentals and popular song parodies formed the shows' signature musical intro and skit transitions. David's instrumental and vocal music has supported TV shows on the Discovery, Home and Garden, and PBS networks, as well as countless industrial and educational video projects.

An eight-year New York City residency brought David to the Rainbow Room and other venues in Manhattan and its surrounding counties and boroughs, as he developed a distinctive style of blues-flavored original compositions and traditional American standards. Since his return to Baltimore in 2003, David has continued his never-ending weekly performance schedule.
