Dawson & Lazo - Sounds like a 21st century Steely Dan with beautiful female vocals !
Texas is the home and inspiration for great songs and songwriters. Continuing this legendary tradition is the singer/songwriter duet Mike Dawson & Lisa Lazo. Dawson & Lazo forged a musical friendship to create music influenced by their favorite artists.
Mike Dawson
Mike Dawson heard Ray Charles in Detroit's Fisher Theatre when he was seven years old and his piano lessons were fueled by 1960's Motown and Vietnam era rock. In 1974 Dawson's family relocated to New Mexico where he picked up the electric guitar, and starting writing his own tunes. He played his first gigs with Tejano bands, Navajo musicians, and sheriff deputies. In 1985 Dawson earned his classical piano performance degree, studying with Thomas Uchtmann, Robert Kehrberg, Dan Haerle, and Steve Erquiaga. His first national notice came while playing synthesizer and piano for Mitch Paliga's jazz group, which placed third in the American Collegiate College Showcase (college version of the Star Search TV show). After briefly living in Malaysia and Singapore, working as an electronics engineer, Dawson moved back to Texas and formed his critically acclaimed rock big band Dawson's New Rage in 1999. Dawson has produced seven original music CD's between 1999 and 2012, including his latest release Dawson & Lazo. A hard driving music producer, Dawson owns his own record label, Texas World Music, and also works as a new media developer. Dawson currently performs keyboards and lead vocals with his group Still Flame.
Lisa Lazo
Fort Worth native Lisa Lazo was first inspired by the moments listening to her Dad play country music on his guitar and taking her to the local record store to buy 45s. Lazo soon began to write her own songs, play the clarinet, and was given her first midi synthesizer from her step dad. She knew music would be a lifelong passion and enrolled at the prestigious College of Music at the University of North Texas. She received her B.M. in music composition studying with world-renowned composers, Cindy McTee, Martin Mailman, and Joseph Klein. After graduating from UNT, Lazo was lead singer in various Denton groups releasing an album on Dallas label, Idol Records, and continued to write original songs collaborating with composers, film producers, and djs from Dallas, LA, and Miami. Lisa is working on her first solo album Son and Moon and has released it's first single, Silk of Love, in the spring of 2012.
