Mike Dawson heard Ray Charles at Detroit's Fisher Theater when he was seven years old and his piano lessons were fueled by 1960's Motown and Vietnam era rock. In 1974 Dawson's family relocated to New Mexico where he picked up the electric guitar, and starting writing his own tunes. He played his first gigs withTejano bands, Navajo musicians, and sheriff deputies. In 1985 Dawson earned his classical piano performance degree, studying with Thomas Uchtmann, Robert Kehrberg, Dan Haerle , and Steve Erquiaga. His first national notice was playing synthesizer and piano for Mitch Paliga’s jazz group Sidestep, which placed third in the American Collegiate College Showcase. After living in Malaysia and Singapore working as an electronics engineer, Dawson moved to Texas and formed his rock n’ roll big band Dawson's New Rage. He has produced seven CD's between 1999 and 2012. His latest music collaboration features Texas singer-songwriter Lisa Lazo, whom he met at a Grammy telecast party in 2006. He owns his record label Texas World Music and In 2009 Dawson formed his world beat rock group Still Flame.
