Daysi Celia Almirall
Daysi Celia Almirall, a pianist, and a versatile composer with a vast range of different rhythms and melodies. She was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, raised in a family musical environment. Since the tender age of 2 ½, she began to play piano by ear, her inspiration came hearing children’s music and popular music in the radio, she took part in a musical children’s program for Radio Emisora Cubana CMQ playing nursery rhymes on the piano. She was chosen to play on the “Estudiantina Pinareña”, at age five, a string ensemble under the direction of the distinguished maestro Manuel Alonso. Composed her first song at seven years old “EL DESIERTO” (The Desert), dedicated to her parents, and quoting “I dreamed in being the songwriter of a Movie’s theme, and the inspiration of a song transcended as I imagined myself into the Movie”. In 1961, due to Cuban political turmoil, her family exiled to Tampa, Fl. She studied Music in the well known Conservatorio Carlos Alfredo Peyrellades and Wagner Conservatory.
Her music is enjoyed worldwide. As an international artist she played a diverse repertoire in a unique 2011 Concert in Sweden. She has performed under the leadership of many times nominee musician Dr. Ed Calle as the pianist for the renowned MDC Commercial Music Ensemble, alongside famous singers, such as Jon Secada. Of late Daysi Celia plays with the “MDC Salsa Jazz Band” under the direction of Rafael Valencia, while also directing her own Band “Daysi Celia`s Quartet”. A precedence on an ongoing evolution in her musical career, Daysi Celia was invited to perform as the Pianist in the band of famous Gloria Estefan`s "HOTEL NACIONAL" Video (see the official video at you tube).
Presenting her instrumental CD "Mi Entrega"(My Surrender), performing with her vibrant piano and playing her compositions, including her first song "El Desierto" plus other popular songs, recently she recorded her 2nd album, “Daysi Celia y su Nota”, bringing to light her compositions, a fusion of Latin rhythms, featuring winning Latin Grammy Award Federico Britos who accompanied her with his Violin in “Estas En mi Corazòn”, and Rafael Valencia, (bass Player of famous TV Show "Sábado Gigante") & simultaneously announcing her 3rd CD, most latest single “MADRE DEL AMOR”, with her composition honoring the 400th year Apparition of Cuban Patron Virgin of Charity, “Virgen de la Caridad”.
Daysi Celia has had the honor of composing the lyrics and music for the Official 30th Anniversary of the Kiwanis of Little Havana, “El Carnaval de Miami”, 2008 of Calle Ocho, recorded by Cuban famous singer Albita Rodriguez, a huge a celebration embraced Miami’s cultural diversity people as they broke out in dance to form one other biguest conga lines ever witnessed thru Miami’s historical street “Calle Ocho”. Her composition, “Cubano de Corazòn”, dedicated to the late famous bassist Israel Lòpez Cachao, debuted in MDC Latin Jazz Festival, interpreted by Cachao's own daughter, Maria Elena Lopez, under the direction of Dr. Ed. Calle, and it has been recorded by his own band “Cachao’s All Star recorded Band”.
A versatile composer, “I am inspired to compose Music through my own, and other’s experiences. There are times that I dream Music and wake up, it doesn’t matter the time, I run to my piano place the notes and words, they flow like a river, I fear that if I take a break, the music will fall into oblivion.”
