Debra G is a professional singer/songwriter, performer, and vocal coach with over 18 years of diverse vocal and performance experience including extensive college level training in contemporary genres, classical voice, vocal technique, opera and recital performance and vocal pedagogy. Debra G currently tours, singing background vocals with Nicholas David, 3rd place winner from NBC's hit show "The Voice". Singing with Nicholas David, Debra G toured the West Coast in 2013 opening for Avett Brothers on their album release tour of "Magpie and the Dandelion". On this 5 week tour, Debra G and the Nicholas David crew performed in venues such as the Santa Barbara Bowl, San Francisco's America's Cup Pavilion and Seattle's Key Arena. This tour was an amazing opportunity and the experience of a lifetime.
Debra G has been apart of the Youth Frontiers family since 2002. Debra is a staff musician and speaker on retreats. Her goal has been and will always be to inspire students and educators to believe in their inner beauty and talents and to encourage them to share these qualities with the world.
In college, Debra competed in several state, regional and national competitions taking home finalist in top 4, 2nd place, and 1st place in 2000. When Debra G first started her professional career as a musician she was a classical vocalist, singing opera, lieder song and performing recitals. Debra G has toured Northern Italy twice, singing lead in the Operetta Orfeo et Euridice and performing Lieder song recitals in several beautiful Italian Opera houses.
Debra G has been a featured guest vocalist with several local/national touring acts such as: Ten17 featuring Solomon Witherspoon, Copasetic, Root City Band, Mark Joseph Project, Devine Collection, Nathan Miller and The Unstoppables, The New Congress. With these bands, Debra G has had the opportunity to open for national/international acts including, Doom Tree, Buddy Guy, Morris Day and The Time, Blues Traveler, Tower of Power and the Avett Brothers.
Debra G has appeared on several local Minneapolis/St. Paul television stations such as channel 4 WCCO morning news, KARE11 Showcase Minnesota Homegrown, Rock Watch TC Musique, Town Square Television program "Amp it UP!", and was the featured guest star in 2011 for the first pilot recording of the “G’night Jam”, a local T.V. game show. RockCapitolRadio.com out of New York City, and CitiesLiveRadio.com out of MPLS, keep Debra G’s original songs “The Plea”, “UnAware” and “Tomorrow” on a national and international rotation.
In January 2012, Debra G was a featured vocalist on the Twin Cities radio stations KQRS and Cities97 to promote the annual “Happy Birthday Janis! A Tribute to the Life and Music of Janis Joplin”.
Debra G had the honor of composing and performing an original a-capella song for the sensational spoken word/dance/music performance of “Amor” during the Nvitational dance festival at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, CA in 2011.
In 2010, 2011 and 2012 Debra G had the honor of performing as one of the “Janis Joplin” vocalists in the annual “Happy Birthday Janis! A Tribute to the Life and Music of Janis Joplin” concert with several outstanding musicians from the Twin Cities area.
Debra G is the featured lead vocalist on an EP recording of the New York City’s risqué musical, “White Noise”.
“The Prick" written and directed by Justin Hawkins debuted in Los Angeles, CA in 2011 featuring three original compositions by Debra G.
“The Plea”, Debra G’s most popular single on iTunes, was awarded finalist in the 2008 "We are listening" International Songwriting Competition. “The Plea” is also featured on the Quickstar Productions (New York City) compilation, “Chill Out” 2009. “Tomorrow” is also featured on the Quickstar Productions compilation, “Come Clean” 2010, and both compilations are internationally distributed. .
Besides being a full time touring, working musician partners with She Rock She Rock’s Girls Rock and Roll Retreat teaching young woman how to be themselves in the music industry. (www.girlsrockandrollretreat.com)
Debra G performs with an anti-bullying non-profit organization called Youth Frontiers, Inc. (www.youthfrontiers.org) She plays music and speaks to youth about the importance of standing up for the value of respect in school.
