Djoumbush is a Montreal-based band that has been performing high-energy danceable Turkish wedding music and original Turkish-flavored compositions since 2006. Featuring members of other well-known Quebec world music groups Sagapool, les Gitans de Sarejevo, Strada, and Lubo Alexandrov’s Kaba Horo, Djoumbush is one of the only bands in North America specializing in the rich musical repertoire and style of Turkish Thrace and Istanbul. Led by Lucas Moore, a protégé of Turkish master G clarinetist Selim Sesler, the music of Djoumbush brings to mind Sesler’s ensembles, Burhan Ocal’s work with the Trakya All Stars, Laco Tayfa, and Omar Faruk Tekbilek. Their first CD also features the chamber music collective Warhol Dervish performing on all 5 of the album's instrumental tracks.
