Biography

Doug Duffey was inducted into the "Louisiana Hall of Fame" in April 2001; he was inducted into the "Blues Hall of Fame" in August 2009.

Born in Monroe, Louisiana, in the Mississippi Delta, Doug Duffey has been singing, playing piano, and composing professionally since the age of 14. His musical career has carried him from his native Louisiana to international success; from Louisiana juke joints to International jazz & blues festivals- from solo gigs on Bourbon Street to 5 star European venues- he's excited crowds for over 5 decades. The consummate artist and entertainer, he performs to enthusiastic club and festival crowds internationally.

He has been composing since his early teens. His songs reflect his Louisiana roots, but his is an original hybrid mix and trans-genre style. Bridging the urban with the rural, the modern with the traditional, the present with the past, each song tells a story, with lyrics written from 'real life' experiences and observations.
With a catalog of hundreds of original songs, Duffey has been called "one of the most prolific songwriters living in Louisiana". Marcia Ball, George Clinton and many international artists have recorded his songs; and he has recorded with too many to mention here [see website] He has recorded 8 CDs of all original material to date.

A professional performer since the age of 14, raised on the club circuit, he’s honed his stage skills through performing and touring. He has mastered his craft through over 4.5 decades onstage! With a rich smoky soulful voice that has been compared to Lou Rawls [and even Bessie Smith] and bluesy jazzy piano style compared to James Booker, Dr John, Nina Simone- but he defies comparisons. Doug Duffey is absolutely his own unique inimitable artistic/musical being; and that being is all about SOUL [the spirit, not the genre] in everything he does. Never one to be pigeon holed or classified as this or that, whether as a performer or songwriter, he dares to experiment, to jump genres; he and his ART are constantly evolving.

Truly one of Louisiana's living legends and artistic treasures, anyone who has ever seen or heard him perform knows that Doug Duffey IS the real thing!
