Douglas Edward

Biography

Douglas Edward is a festival award-winning Composer and classically trained Violinist/Pianist who has scored many films that have screened at festivals throughout the world.  He received an award for "Best Impact of Music in a Feature Film" from the Park City Film Music Festival, an award for "Best Movie Soundtrack" from the Bare Bones International Film Festival, and an award for "Best Film Score" from the Moondance International Film Festival.

In addition to playing the Violin and Piano, Douglas also performs on the Viola, Cello, Guitar, and various Percussion instruments. He has a degree in Music Composition with credits in Theory, Accompanying, Choir, Orchestration, and New Music. Douglas possesses an impassioned musical writing style, an eclectic blend of electronic with acoustic instruments, and emotive orchestral timbres that help in producing the best scores possible for all types of filmmakers.

The FW Weekly describes his music as "providing powerful, frequently mournful, occasionally artfully angular lines that dominate entire sonic tableaux or enriching passages, adding depth and texture". The Independent Critic describes one of his recent scores as "the perfect cinematic companion". The Star-Telegram describes his music as "a modern symphony filled with mood swings; great crescendo peaks followed by valleys of whispery silences. So polished are the string parts that they alone could be spliced into any movie soundtrack and immediately enhance the desired mood".

Douglas has scored many productions, including the upcoming show "Ghostbreakers" (hosted by Joey Greco from "Cheaters"), the SyFy Channel Feature "Meteor Apocalypse" (starring Joe Lando from "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman"), Kerry Valderrama's "Garrison" (distributed by Peace Arch Entertainment), Pablo Veliz's "The Boys of Ghost Town" (co-starring Danny Trejo from "Desperado"), Robert Paschall Jr's "The Locker" (produced by Gary Brown from "Prison Break"), Benjamin Wilbank's "Night Crawlers" (co-starring Mathew Greer from "No Country for Old Men"), David Matheny's "My Step-Dad's a Freakin' Vampire!" (distributed by Level 33 Entertainment), Mike Norris's "Maggie's Passage" (co-starring Janine Turner from "Friday Night Lights"), and "Southern Comforts" (produced by Richard Allen who was the Head Writer for NBC's "Days of Our Lives" and is a two time Emmy award-winning Associate Writer for CBS's "As the World Turns").  Douglas has string arrangements and performances air on many TV shows including the WB's "One Tree Hill", MTV's "16 and Pregnant", and NBC's "Chuck".

Douglas draws from his live experience, having performed the Piano and Violin with orchestras, rock bands, and solo artists.  Shows include performances with John Price, Calhoun, Flickerstick, and The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash at various venues and a number of outdoor music festivals. Douglas has opened up for national acts including Cake, Collective Soul, Erykah Badu, Wyclef Jean, the Reverend Horton Heat, Mars Volta, Old 97's, the Dashboard Confessional, R.E.M., the Stone Temple Pilots, and Nine Inch Nails.

Douglas also draws on his studio experience, appearing on many recordings with groups/artists such as Alan, the Black Tie Dynasty, the February Chorus, Bill Callahan, and Clinic. He has recorded with producer/engineer Keith Cleversley (Flaming Lips, HUM, Mercury Rev, Verve), David Castell (Blue October, Burden Brothers, Course of Empire, Deep Blue Something), Grammy nominated producer/engineer John Congleton (Modest Mouse, Polyphonic Spree, Explosions in the Sky), and Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Stuart Sikes (White Stripes, the Walkmen, Jets to Brazil, Cat Power).

Douglas was born near San Francisco, grew up in both Wiesbaden and San Antonio, graduated from the University of North Texas in the Dallas Metroplex with a degree in Music Composition, and currently writes music for media while based at his home studio in Los Angeles. As a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers), he is always interested in working to create original music for Film, TV, Commercials, and Video Games.
