Biography

Influenced by artists such as Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, Stephanie Mills, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and many others, Dr. E is a soul sister-singer and renaissance woman. She is an artist not easily defined by genre categories, though she calls herself a soul singer. For her, soul is jazz, R&B, gospel, reggae, pop and more if it is spirit-filled and touches the heart. A Cleveland, Ohio-native, she renewed her identity as a recording songstress in 2006. Her current project is “Elevated,” a collection of songs which showcase the versatility of her vocal styling, lyrical expression, and her love of live music.

Dr. E is an engaging show-woman, having performed as opening act for David Hollister and Martha Munizzi at the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, as well as performed at countless private events, plays, festivals, public venues, and select clubs.

Dr. E is also an actress, starring in Candi Landrum’s gospel stage play, A Fallen World (Lincoln Theater, Columbus, Ohio) and Dr. Mary Weems’ tribute to Billie Holiday, Phyllis Hyman, Nina Simone, and Etta James-- At Last: Celebrating the Lives of Soul Sisters (Ingenuity Festival Bridge Project [Cleveland, Ohio] and Ohio State University’s Wexner Center).

Dr. E has a multidimensional personality. Several tunes that she has penned have already been licensed to daytime television shows such as All of My Children, The Young and the Restless, and Dharma and Greg. Dr. E is also an author, educator and motivational speaker. Also known as Dr. Elaine Richardson, professor of education at The Ohio State University, Her latest book is both street literature and educational memoir that chronicles her life from the school of hard knocks of Cleveland, Ohio to the halls of the academy.
