Is he a hipster? Does he do pop music ? He is just a rapper? All three questions refer to categorizing what Drupy does as a musician.. The answer to all three question may be too complex to fully detail but one word that best describes the type of artist he is……..universal. Not since Kanye West has an artist crossed genre-lines while pushing the limits within hip-hop fashion, music and high-art.
The Southern Entertainment Award (SEA) nominated artist, whose musical taste include pop, rock, r&b and rap, has released 6 projects since 2003, including the SEA nominated release, Chicago: The Low End Theory which featured the Fate Eastwood (Yo Gotti, AllStar) produced single,”Whole Squad Aped Up (The Bape Song). The track was chosen as one of the Hottest 50 Indy song of 2008 (SEA Magazine) and went on to propel Drupy and his independent label Hunnedspoke Entertainment into the upper echelon of the Nashville Independent Music scene. Since its release Drupy has collaborated with producer Mannie Fresh and his flagship artist The Show as well as grooming local phenom’s The Nobots and consulting for burgeoning shoe line, Legal Tender.
Also, he began recording material for his next 3 projects, Fli Musik I & II and the follow-up to his previous LP, Lake Shore Drive. Those sessions include r&b and pop collaborations with other local phenom’s Sarah Silva and Sam& Tre as well as additional production from Kanye West, Mannie Fresh and Boy Genius (Disney). Songs such as “International Man of Misery” featuring Sarah Silva with its Euro-pop techno influence and “Blue Eyes” which features Fred Durst of Limp Biskit properly showcases Drupy’s adaptation of musical styles, taste and subject matter. In 2011 alone Drupy was nominated for 3 Hip-Hop in the Ville Awards, performed at Bonnaroo (along side Chancellor Warhol) opening for Eminem and Lil Wayne and released Chicago: Lake Shore Drive (LSD) to critical acclaim (The Nashville Scene and Breakonacloud.com). He also scored two big song placements one with MTV and the other with HBO (for his collaboration w/ Warhol “I’m On”) and is featured on the Dr.Dre tribute album along side established artist like Domino and Layzie Bone of Bone Thugs in Harmony. He also nabbed radio spins for 3 singles off Fli Musik 2: Pop World in at least 10 different markets ( “Perculate” “Too Good” and “International Man of Mysery”.In 2012 he was voted by and featured on IUM’s 2011Wrap-Up as one of the 14 hottest act of 2011 and is gearing for the release of projects, 3 EP’s (including a Watch The Throne style EP with Chancellor Warhol and a dubstep collabo w/ eletro-dubstep staples Protohype) and his third full-length LP, Fli Musik 2: Pop World .
Drupy understands good music can’t be boxed-in saying, “I realized that the future of music is filled with no boundries or limitations and is genre-less” having covered eletro, dubstep, rock, rap and R&B. Also, Drupy, through his music, is on a mission to enlighten the masses along the way with intelligent lyrics, great presence and clever wordplay. Believing that a social message can be delivered in a easy and digestible way Drupy feels that “people don’t understand that within popular music that there is a war going and forces with degenerative messages are imposing this upon listeners” and he can offer a different perspective and perception.
