Dulcimer Dan Gilvary is a self taught hammered dulcimer player from Raleigh, N.C. He came acros the magical sounds of the hammered dulcimer many years ago while on a backpacking trip through New England in the town of Bar Harbor, Maine in a little shop called Song of the Sea. He knew immediatley that this was the instrument he was going to play. He spent the next year living in Ireland helping local farmers and being exposed to Celtic music.
Dan put together the Blue Skies Band in 1988 and have recorded ten CD's selling over 500,000 copies. Together they created the theme music for the Emmy Award winning PBS gardening show 'Making It Grow', were featured on the Billy Graham radio show and represented the state of North Carolina on the QVC shopping channel selling over 12,000 CD's in under five minutes.
Dan is a critical care nurse in North Carolina and has specialized in open heart recovery, trauma team and infusion chemotherapy for Duke Medical Center. He spends much of his free time growing his own food by organic gardening and loves to swing dance and contra dance.
