DUO DECONET aims to promote the music of a new generation of Latin American composers, offering several Premiers in the Asia-Pacific region.
HENRY ÁVILA, originally from Venezuela, completed his Degree in Violin and Master of Arts in the former USSR. Since arriving in Australia from Venezuela, Henry has given many performances as a soloist with orchestras and he has played numerous recitals with piano and guitar at the Sydney Opera House, Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Angel Place Recital Hall, and Newington College Hall. Henry also works as a freelance musician in several chamber orchestras and manages his own string quartet “Avila String Quartet”. Along with his career as a soloist, Henry has taught at the Australian Institute of Music, Newington College, and University of Western Sydney. He currently works as a Director of Strings and Conductor of the String Ensemble at Burwood Girls High School. Henry is also in charge of the string programs conducted in various Schools in Sydney’s.
IRMA ENRÍQUEZ, born in Mexico City, Irma completed her Bachelor Degree in Piano with Aurelio León at the National University in Mexico and her Masters Degree in Spain. She took master classes with Edith Picht, Bernard Flavigny, George Demus, Jean Paul Sevilla, among others. Irma has recorded incidental music for Theatre. In 1993 she won the first prize and a medal from the UNAM in Cultural Promotion. She participated in the International project "Musical Iconography of the Visual Arts in Mexico" CENIDIM-INBA. Irma moved to Australia in 2000. She has offered numerous piano, chamber and vocal music recitals around Mexico, USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, and Australia. She teaches at her studio in Sydney, and also has worked as the Coordinator of Music program at Woodbury Autism-Education and Research. She is a member of the Music Teacher's Association of NSW (MTA) and the Australian Hispanic Women’s Business Network (AHWBN). In 2010 won the Award from the AHWBN in recognition for her Outstanding Achievement in the promotion of her Hispanic Heritage in Australia. In 2011 Irma has been nominated for the National Award in Arts from Mexico, as a pioneer promoter of the Contemporary Latin American Concert Music in Australia.
