Having never been formally trained in composition, Dustin Lowes relies on his own experience, exploration and creative ingenuity. His first composition for percussion with electronic accompaniment, "Fear of the Hunted", finished third in the 2005 PAS composition contest. Other highlights include his work for eight percussionists and electronica in "Electrolution" which premiered at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, 2007.
Outside of composing, Dustin Lowes is an educator with an emphasis on marching percussion and music technology. He has spent 13 years as a marching percussionist that ended with 5 years at the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps [1999-2003]. After spending a few years as a technician with the group, Dustin has spent his time giving back invaluable knowledge and opportunities to other young and aspiring students across the nation.
After completing his associate degree in mathematics & sciences in 2009, he went on to receive his bachelor’s in mathematical sciences and secondary education from Penn State in 2012. He continues to study the art of composition and music theory privately.
