EAST FOREST is a unique musical project that combines 100% original field recordings with ethereal, melodic soundscapes.
It is a special blend of source sounds and tuneful musical collages that humbly hopes to serve as a guide, a little tool, to put a few cracks in the hypnotic spell of our modern life and help each of us rediscover a sense of self through introspection.
East Forest originated as the solo identity of Trevor Oswalt (“Oswalt” translates from German to “East-Forest”). A self-described “reformed Eagle Scout” Trevor was raised amongst the evergreens of Oregon and later moved to New York City for a thirteen year spell on the East Coast living underneath a loud blue bridge in Brooklyn. Out of the noise he found himself drawn to nature where he began to make field recordings to capture the natural sounds around him: he recorded things like tree frogs, fire pits, and mountain breezes through fall leaves. Back in the urban realm he captured the sounds of subways, mouse clicks, and traffic light switch boxes. The resulting library of clatter gradually made its way to music and birthed forth was East Forest: Ambient-Earth-Dream-Hypno-Shaman-Rock.
Over the years the project expanded widely into live performances ranging from traditional concerts, sound healing ceremonies, and even performances at rustic farms and also urban bathhouses.
East Forest also branched out into collaborations in the world of yoga including events with Elena Brower (of yoga with 10,000 people in Central Park fame), and also composing music for Deepak Chopra’s ground breaking mind-body video game, “Leela” (for which he also served as a spiritual adviser).
East Forest is a gift and a gesture in the spirit of cooperation for the benefit of the human experience.
Trevor eventually successfully extracted himself from New York City and currently lives back on the west coast in Portland, Oregon and continues to travel anywhere the sounds take him.
