Imagine traveling to a different world. A place where from the streets you could hear the sounds of singing and dancing Hasidic Jews mingling with those of traveling Gypsy caravans. Where Romanian musicians leading a wedding procession through cobblestone streets blend with Russian folk musicians playing their songs with all the intensity of modern punk rock. Not just a bygone fantasy or bizarre internet mashup, this is what Fleet Street Klezmer Band create every time they play. A place where spirits ride on waves of wine and song, and fellowship speaks all languages.
Fleet Street Klezmer Band currently consists of the following:
Shlomo Kostenko - Vocals, upright bass, oud, guitar
Victoria Kostenko - Violin, vocals
Matthew Vorhies - Accordion
Doc Woolf - Drums, percussion, didgeridoo
Hollace McMeirce - Banjo
Cecilia Rinn - Dance, percussion
Za'Nyah Zi - Dance, percussion
As of November (2012), the band is wrapping up production on their first CD, entitled "Vodka and Pickles", with an estimated release date of January 2013. All tracks on the project were recorded live in the historic Ahavath Beth Israel synagogue in Boise, using a single microphone (Audio Technica AT4033) direct to digital through a Focusrite preamp and A/D converter. After experimenting with different methods of recording, the band felt that the "vintage" single-mic style best captured how the band sounds as a whole.
FSKB performs at numerous gigs and events throughout the Treasure Valley, and would definitely be interested in talking to you about playing at your next event. For booking information, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
