Fula Flute

Fula Flute integrates the tambin, traditional Fulani flute of the Fouta Djalon highlands of Guinea. A little-known instrument outside West Africa where it is revered for the profound effect it has on listeners, often bringing them to tears with its haunting sounds and melodies that reach deep inside one's soul. It can be encountered sometimes as one travels through the back country, emanating from the forests, fields and mountains as if the song of a spirit.

The lead soloist of Fula Flute is Bailo Bah, foremost, internationally recognized master of the instrument.

In June of 2002, Fula Flute released the critically acclaimed self-titled album "Fula Flute" A unique contribution to the world's musical landscape, it is now widely accepted as a classic. Its songs can currently be heard daily on Guinean media, radio, television and cinema, played alongside the country's greatest traditional music, used for news broadcast theme music and soundtrack.

In 2004 Fula Flute had the honor and privilege to collaborate with the legendary guinean balafon master and doyen El Hadj Djeli Sory Kouyate culminating with a performance during the opening season of Zankel Hall.

In recent years the Ensemble has, among others, performed educational programs for Lincoln Center, New York City Schools and the New York Metropolitan Museum; played featured concerts for the New York Flute Club, Indiana University and the World Music Institute. The 2008 " Desert Blues III" compilation features "Keme Bourema," a track from the original CD. Fula Flute has also licensed its music to many productions, including feature films.
