G. F. Mlely, long acclaimed worldwide as a pianist and composer, ventures in a different direction with his new CD. “Compilation One” (soon to be followed by "Compilation Two") features thirteen of his songs - all written and composed by him - spanning several years in the creating, covered by a variety of singers in a mix of arrangements.
He is also author of 3 musical theatre works from which several of his songs on this new CD emanate. His first musical, “And All That Jazz,” ran 4 months in San Francisco. “Threnody For An Unborn Child,” from his solo piano CD, “Re-Entry,” is the music used in “How The Cookie Crumbles,” since 2008 a continuously running Off-Broadway play in New York, produced by the Xoregos Performing Company.
Mlely’s professional music industry associations have included Freddie Hubbard, George Harrison, The Cunninghams on multi-charted and Grammy-Nominated albums. Hubbard was caused to exclaim to Mlely, "You write my kind of music, man." There is a unique identity to all of Mlely's work. Several albums under his own name have received Top-10 National Airplay and international encomia.
In a major boost to his career, Mlely was featured on a European concert tour which he had to leave midway to take care of a sudden family emergency back home in America, causing him to curtail his career for over a decade. His decade-long hiatus from professional activity gave him the time to create and lay much of the groundwork for what constitutes his current library of work.
No longer performing live due to a disabling condition contracted recently, Mlely now concentrates on composing, writing songs and instrumental work, occasionally recording them that, besides lyrical songs, include spoken-word, dramatic recitative, orchestral, and chorale.
He is author of “The 8-Tone Quarto-Modes Concept,” new theory for improvisation, published by JazCraft. And author of “New Music and American Christendom,” freely accessible to read online.
