Gareth Thomas

Biography

My name is Gareth Thomas and I’m a musician and multi instrumentalist currently based in Nottingham, England. My main instrument is electric guitar but I also play acoustic guitar, bass guitar and piano, and like to fuse these sounds together to create a blend of heavy melodic music.

A lot of influence in my music comes from the heavy metal genre, however listening to blues, classical, folk and jazz all add extra flavours into the mix.

I released my first instrumental progressive rock album ‘The Theory’ back in the spring of 2006, stylistically being similar to artists like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani and essentially being my attempt at a melodic guitar hero record. Listening to lots of bands with poodle hair from 1987 certainly had an impact on me back then. This CD is still available to listen to and purchase at CD Baby.

Whilst I still admire the guitar hero and shredder genre of music, my current release the ‘Destructor (EP)’ focuses on a heavier sound with lots of angular chuggy guitar rhythms, and spacious clean melodic breaks with stripped back lead guitar work.
