Genil Castro

Genil Castro started his music studies with the bossa nova guitar legend Sidney Barros (Gamela) in 1981. Genil attended classes and workshops with Joe Pass, Joe Diorio, Frank Gambale, Larry Coryell, Steve Morse, Mick Goodrick, Lenny Breau among others at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood during the period of 1983/84. Genil played and/or recorded with João Donato, Cássia Eller, Vittor Santos, Toninho Horta, Rafael Barata, Nelson Faria, Lula Galvão, Don Burrows, Phil DeGreg, Joe Diorio, Widor Santiago, Kiko Fretas, Paulo Russo among many others. Genil has a strong influence from the music of Lenny Breau and Bill Evans, exploring the techniques initiated by Breau expanding the harmonic vocabulary of the guitar, his videos on youtube received more than 450.000 visits.
