Israeli singer-songwriter guitarist Geva Alon is back with a new solo English-language album: 'Get Closer'. Set for a mid-November release and produced by the renowned Thom Monahan (Devendra Banhart, Silver Jews, Dinosaur Jr., Jayhawks), 'Get Closer' features Geva with his backup band Tree playing striking new arrangements ranging in style from haunting alternative rock to psychedelic guitar and country music. 'The Wind Whispers', the first single from 'Get Closer', entered the Israeli Top Ten rock charts upon its release a few weeks ago to critical acclaim and has remained there since. Geva is currently touring Israel with Tree, in support of the release of the new album's second single 'I Can See the Stars' which has also topped the local radio charts.
On top of its power, emotion and uncompromising sound, 'Get Closer' is Geva's most personal album yet, written after a long touring stint in the United States that culminated with Geva’s performance at the Fillmore in Sept '08 in support of the legendary Paul Weller.
Geva, a virtuoso guitarist, is one of the standouts of today's blooming Israel indie music scene, as well as one of the pioneers of English-language alternative rock in Israel. His musical roots run deep in the electric guitar, beginning with his contribution as the brilliant lead singer, guitarist, songwriter and lyricist for the psychedelic power-rock of 'The Flying Baby', a Tel Aviv-based trio which recorded three albums and toured the States several times during the early part of the decade.
Geva's primary musical roots and direction can best be seen in his first solo album, 'Days of Hunger'; its acoustic country-flavored harmonies based on his solid song craft marked by clear, haunting vocals and stellar guitar work crowned him king of Tel Aviv's leading English-language folk revival scene upon the album's debut in 2006. Since then, Geva has enjoyed the fruits of commercial and artistic success in his native country, especially in his about-face, introspective cover of Bowie's 'Modern Love' from 'Wall of Sound', which has become a major radio hit and enjoyed numerous placements as a cable soundtrack.
After two hit singles and a sellout tour, "Get Closer" stands as one of the most anticipated albums to be released this year in Israel.
