From his humble beginnings in Havana playing alongside The Buena Vista Social Clubs's Omara Portuondo, Giovany Arteaga has emerged from his Latin roots to become one of the most exciting and singular voices on today’s jazz scene.
Giovany is a streetwise, university-educated jazzman extraordinaire, and his musical journey has seen him record and play with some of the world’s best jazz musicians. Just ask Giovanni Hidalgo, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Florence K, Ben Charest, Frank Lacy and Trigran Hamasyan what they think about working with Giovany. They’ll tell you about the jazz professional and musician who plays at another level… and about how his music is an emotionally charged mix of warmth, technique and spirit that you only find among great artists. They’ll also tell you of the man, generous and charismatic both off-stage and on.
His first solo album, Giovany Arteaga - Live@Le festival de Jazz de Québec, will be launched this May, and is a direct result of Arteaga’s 2011 concert in trio at Québec City’s premier jazz festival. His show was named the Festival Favorite—its Coup de Coeur—by event president and founder Gino Ste-Marie. Arteaga wraps his stunning technical abilities around compelling compositions with an innate sense of melody to deliver an amazing and intense album.
LIVE@Le Festival de Jazz de Québec is an open invitation for you to discover one of neo-jazz’s young rising stars!
