Celebrated ‘King of Swing’, New York pianist Gordon Webster, met Melbourne’s Hetty Kate on the bandstand at Jumptown Jam 2013 amidst a crowded dance hall full of twirling skirts and dapper gentlemen. Thanks to Swing Patrol, Jumptown Swing and exuberant supportive dancers, Gordon and Hetty were able to record an album in New York in September 2013.. and they’re thrilled to launch it in 2014.
About Gordon and Hetty
Well Gordon barely needs any introduction as he’s the number one pianist and bandleader for dancers! Gordon Webster regularly tours around the world, often invited to Europe and Asia as well as touring regularly across the USA. Drawing on influences as diverse as Fats Waller, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson and Gene Harris, Gordon passionately serves up a smorgasbord of styles unified by one characteristic.. irresistible danceability! Pure of tone, sweet sounding and dangerously infectious, Melbourne jazz vocalist Hetty Kate can be seen singing to packed dance floors for Jumptown Jam, Canberrang, MLX, Blues Before Sunrise, Southern Blues and soon Brisbane Lindy Exchange. She performs regularly with Australian multi-instrumentalist James Morrison, as well as performing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and at Jazz festivals around the globe. Never short of a quick quip and with a clear voice reminiscent of a young Ella Fitzgerald or Peggy Lee, Hetty sings from the heart.. and has made a name for herself singing at both Blues and Lindy events around the country.
