The Gourdvine String Band plays Old-Time, Celtic, and original music from the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. Band members are Ellen Snyder (fiddle, guitar, vocals), EJ Burke (banjo, mandolin, guitar), Rannie Winn (whistles, vocals), and Doug Marshall (guitar, bass, mandolin, vocals).
We are located in the upper Rappahannock valley of Virginia (Rappahannock, Madison, Culpeper, and Spotsylvania counties). We are local, organic, free-range musicians. We are available for private parties, fundraisers, and other events. We especially love to play for dances, and we are fortunate to work with DeLaura Padovan, a great dance caller who is guaranteed to get you on your feet and dancing regardless of your skill level.
Our music is energetic, authentic, and straightforward. We play Celtic and Appalachian traditional music, but these are living traditions and we think we add our own special touch.
