To Grace O'Malley is dedicated the band's name, a brave, rebel woman, a sixteenth century pirate.
The band was born in Italy in 2000 and it's composed by classically trained performers, with concert experiences that range from Classical to Folk, with executions in prestigious concert halls in Italy, Europe, Asia, United States and Japan.
The four musicians are tied together in this project, searching for a freedom of interpretation about popular ancient world.
Their names are:
Edoardo Caffi: Flute
Alessandro Cavalleri: Fiddle
Giusi Pesenti: Voice and Percussions
Manuela Bonfanti: Guitars
The music of Grace O'Malley Quartet mixes ancient airs to jigs, hornpipes, stratspheys, reels, popular gaelic songs, in a rich and balanced combination of rhythms and evocative melodies. Of particular interest is the group's choice to perform some sacred and profane vocals in Gaelic language.
The resulting style is unique with a captivating atmosphere, where the classical players' sound meets intimate folk melodies, based on thumbing rhythms that beat about powerful stories, memories, traditions.
