Greg Burton

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, singer/songwriter Greg Burton now calls Philadelphia home, and is quickly proving himself as one of the city’s emerging artists. His work reflects an eclectic blend of musical styles including acoustic rock, pop, and even a touch of folk – no surprise given influences such as James Taylor, John Mayer, Train and Damien Rice.

Greg’s emphasis on meaningful lyrics and strong melodies has garnered industry recognition with three of his original songs winning awards in the John Lennon, Billboard, Great American, and Mid Atlantic national song contests.

But no description would be complete without mention of perhaps Greg’s greatest asset, his voice. Whether bellowing in full voice or toying with a soft falsetto, Greg’s vocal ability shines due in large part to origins in a cappella music. Greg started his music career with one of New York City’s hottest a cappella singing groups, New Image. Known for their soulful sound and diverse repertoire, the six member group made a name for itself in some of New York’s most noted clubs such as The Bottom Line, Wetlands, and The Bitter End. Their unique style landed them a job as warm-up vocalists for the now classic Cosby Show, as well as national television and radio appearances on Late Night with David Letterman, Regis and Kathie Lee, The Howard Stern Show, Public Broadcasting Station's Great Performance Series and Garrison Keillor’s American Radio Company of the Air. New Image also performed as background vocalists for world-renown recording artists Sting, Tina Turner, George Michael, and Tom Jones.

Following the eventual disbanding of the group, Greg Burton joined New York-based, acoustic rock band PRY. Often compared to Seal and The Dave Matthews Band, PRY established a following in Manhattan and along the Northeastern college circuit. Greg became PRY’s percussionist and background vocalist, but also co-wrote two of the band’s crowd pleasers; Mend My Soul and Better World. This gave Greg his first taste of songwriting, and an infectious desire to focus on the art of songwriting.

Greg Burton released his debut independent album entitled "The Better Part of Me" in June, 2013. Now on his own, Greg performs primarily in Pennsylvania, New York and the tri-state area. Whether solo on acoustic guitar, accompanied by acoustic guitar/bass, or backed by a full band, you’re likely to find him performing tracks from the album or trying out new material at clubs, cafes and bars featuring original music. Many people have asked Greg if he thinks he’ll be able to establish himself in this tough business of music. He likes to answer the question by quoting from one of his favorite books, Paulo Coehlo’s The Alchemist, “If you truly desire something, in the depths of your soul … the universe will conspire to make it happen.” I guess we’ll have to see what the universe has in store for this talented songwriter.
