Greg Gutty

Greg Gutty …..was born Gregory E Yancey Jr. in Portsmouth Va, on December 24th, 1986. Gutty began singing at the age of 5 as a lead and background singer in a quartet group called 4 Of a Kind. The group consisted of Greg and 3 of his first cousins, Alton and Arthur who are twin brothers along with David Yancey; who was later replaced by the twin’s older brother, Alan Lee. After 9 years of shows and performances, 4 Of a Kind’s journey had suddenly come to an end. Two years after the group had split up; Gutty was then 15 years old and began recording solo with his first song called “All I Want,” produced by high school friend Cyce Bub. After a couple of follow up songs, he started working with Cyce Bub in his home studio to work on some other songs which ended up becoming Gutty’s first solo project. These songs included the leading single entitled, “Alright” along with other tracks such as “Find A Way” and “Let`s do it again” amongst others. Gutty began to attract attention from his older cousin Dymond Cutz, who was also creating a buzz for his own music. They soon joined forces along with their cousin Spitz, who is now incarcerated serving a 13 year sentence. They went by the name of Lawst Coluny as a rap trio in 2005. The first 3 songs were “Lawst Coluny Anthem,” “Mary Jane,” and “Down & Dirty.” It was during these years Greg Gutty was making the beautiful blend between singing hooks and spitting 16`s on the verse. As Lawst Coluny’s popularity was growing so were their ego`s and there were a lot of outside distractions. Gutty, still remained focused on his music career decided to add a branch off from LC called “Stackalot” to keep tension down with other group members. In 2007, Gutty and Young Rique; Stackalot artist & Co-CEO, started working on a Stackalot Mixtape where they sang and rapped on each and every song. Tension seemed to worsen between the two groups but since they were family, they kept their composure. Spitz got locked up that same year in June of 2007 for a robbery charge. Since then the group has been off and on.

Greg Gutty refused to slow down and worked non-stop, putting together a combination of all his hooks and verses creating his first solo mixtape called “Something New” in 2008. He later followed up with self titled mixtape “Gutty” in 2009, along with singles and tons of hooks for various artists. In 2010 Gutty took a musical setback and was only able to put out singles and feature hooks but no album or mixtape. Things began to pick back up for Gutty, releasing Gutty Vol. 2 & 3 before letting go art of rapping and pursuing his love of playing guitar. Gutty has plans to now form a backing band that will go by the name of The Port of Reign and is ready to release his first EP on May 1, 2012 entitled “Ready for the World”. I hope the world is ready because this is only the beginning.
