Biography
Gregg Standridge is a singer/songwriter from Norman Oklahoma. He performs original compositions mainly from his own experiences. Standridge has a Masters Degree in Classical Guitar Performance which gives his writing a slightly different twist from many in this genre. The core of his writing might be called folk rock but there are certain aspects of traditional country/bluegrass as well as jazz/blues. Standridge admits to influences from a wide a variety of artists including, Elvis Costello, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Pixies, Aimee Mann, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, REM, Husker Du, King Crimson and Neil Young.
Standridge began playing drums when he was 14 and switched to mandolin after hearing the album “Every Picture Tells a Story” by Rod Stewart. He then picked up guitar with help from his friend Paul Hendrix. Hendrix showed him the basic chords and how to figure songs out by ear and Standridge began to play in old line country bands and rock bands in South Oklahoma City.
He then was granted the opportunity to study music at OCCC and USAO. He finished his formal education at OCU. After living in Los Angeles for one year Standridge moved back to the greater OKC area and then began writing and performing with the Norman based bands “Inspector 12 and “Doc and the Delivery Boys.” After these 2 projects he began building his teaching studio which he still maintains today through McMichael Music.
His awards include a first place finish in a scramble golf tournament in Moore, Oklahoma in 1989 in which he was the “D level golfer”. And in 1969 his fifth grade little league baseball team earned “The Sportsmanship Award” for their perfect 0 - 14 record in the OK Kids Association League.
