A considerable part of the latin hiphop scene doesn’t come from Latin America or the USA alone. Also in Europe there are lots of creative talents who cultivate their latin roots in the music they are producing. Just like the Cuban musician and producer Freddy Scull Sánchez known as Habano MC, who lives and performs in Germany since 1994. Habano was born in Havana, the capital of Cuba. He was taught percussion by Joaquín Pozo, the grandson of the legendary Chano Pozo from the Dizzy Gillespie Band. After Habano came to Hamburg/Germany, he formed the traditional “Sol y Son” Group and later the latin hiphop trio “Puros Habanos”. He took part in various music projects, he organized several events on his own and is now living and working as a DJ and MC in Berlin, producing his own music and that of other artists.
On his first album “Made in Cuba”, he made a funky fusion of hiphop, R’n’B and elements of traditional cuban music. His second album Hablas de mi which contains a mix of latin hiphop and Reggaeton.
Habano is just a new star revealed in the eurocuban hiphop scene.
