Heather Burns lives on Vancouver Island and works as a free-lance musician. After studying and working in Los Angeles, Washington, Winnipeg and Banff, she has made Victoria her home. She holds a Masters in Piano Performance. She enjoys opportunities to teach and perform both locally and abroad. Heather has released 2 CD’s, “Child’s Play” (2005) and “Road Back Home” (2008), both instrumental mixes of music reflecting the jazz, Celtic, Roots, and classical influences that have cultivated her style over 15 years of study and training. She performs regularly with her trio, quartet and larger ensemble, including musicians Joey Smith, Kelby MacNayr, Don Leppard, Paul O’Brien, Dean Samuel, Chris Bertin, & Chris Newstead.
Over the past 3 years Heather has collaborated with artist, Rose Cowles-Martin and poet, Carla Funk, in developing “RhythmART”; a concert-format show featuring visual art and poetry and musical performance. This show merges the rhythms and textures from each of their artistic genres in a spirit of improvisation, spontaneity & play.
Burns has also done extensive work as a musician and Music Director in the theatre world on productions including My Fair Lady, Beauty & the Beast, Crazy For You, & a touring production ofForever Plaid. Her performing career has taken her through Europe, the US, and Canada, but she also loves to be at home with family and friends enjoying the simple pleasures of life…a cup of coffee, a good conversation and the relationships that make life rich and inspire great music.
