Biography

HECTOR CORIS was born in Queens, NY and hasn't strayed too far since. Currently, he resides in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

As a performer, he has appeared in numerous musicals, revues, plays, readings and workshops in NYC and beyond including You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown; The Wiz; Around the World in a Bad Mood (U.S. and Canada); My Favorite Year; The World Goes Round; and Fade Out, Fade In.

As a songwriter, he earned a 2004 MAC Award nomination for his song "In Heaven (They Sing Nothing But Showtunes)" (music by Paul L. Johnson). In 2006, his original musical revue, What's Your Problem?! (also written with Paul L. Johnson) won awards for Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Performance in a Musical (Male) in the 2006 Fresh Fruit Festival and Best Musical and Best Ensemble in the 2006 Montreal Harvest International Theatre Festival. For his next revue, What's the Point?!, Hector (and composer Alan Cancelino) received a 2009 MAC Award nomination for Outstanding Revue/Variety Production.

For his work in NYC cabaret, Hector received the prestigious Jeff Matson Award from Cabaret Hotline for his outstanding contributions to the NYC cabaret community. He proudly serves as Vice-President of MAC (The Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) and performs regularly on nearly all of NYC's cabaret stages. In 2009, Hector made his solo cabaret debut with Life is Wonderful, which garnered much acclaim.

Hector is the co-founder of Opening Doors Theatre Company - winners of the 2009 BISTRO Award for Outstanding Series for their acclaimed "Closing Notice" series. For ODTC, he directed the very first NYC revivals of the classic musicals Bring Back Birdie, The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public, and Subways Are For Sleeping. As a producer, he helped shepherd the first revival of Whoop-Up as well.
