Helge Tallqvist has played amplified harmonica, both chromatic and diatonica, since the early 80's. Helge met the great George " Harmonica" Smith in Stockholm 1982 and George invitet Helge with his friends over to Los Angeles to spend time with him and people like Rod Piazza, William "Bill" Clarke, Rick Estrin, Shakey Jake Harris, Smokey Wilson, Mike Watson etc. This one month trip meeting these top blues mucisians in the area was a start for Helge to take his instrument more serious than before. The Cd "plays George Harmonica Smith" is a tribute cd to this outstanding harmonica player and singer. Sadly George died in 1983 and this cd honors his memory.
"Really, really fine harmonica that shows a real feel for the tradition of the 50s. Good attention to tone, phrasing and attack. Plenty of energy, lots of taste. Good interply with the band and strong band performances throughout. The playing would be a treat for any fan of 50s Chicago blues, or anyone who is a fan of true blues harmonica. I’m quite impressed and I’m sure I´ll enjoy listening to this album again".
