Hidden Frequency is the alias of Finnish indie/electronic musician Kimmo Koivula, born in Helsinki in 1983. Inspired by the likes of The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers he started making music in the late 1990s with a Roland MC-303 groovebox. The music was mostly break-beat, techno and drum & bass at first. After exploring many different genres during the years the musical style has slowly shifted towards downtempo and ambient. He took interest in guitar playing almost a decade later and it has been an important part of his music ever since.
The project Hidden Frequency started in 2012 and the debut album 'Imaginary Time' saw daylight on the following year. The sophomore album 'The Fifth Element' was released a year after that. Both albums were independently produced and financed.
Hidden Frequency's sound is focused on atmospheric soundscapes, chilled grooves and downtempo rhythms. He loves to experiment and play with odd time-signatures. When choosing sounds to his productions he prefers hardware synths and real guitar pedals. All songs are recorded and produced in his small home studio. Genre-blending songs are fusion of electronica, downtempo, chill out, ambient, drum & bass, post-rock and experimental music. The music is inspired by life, the universe and everything.
